Telemedicine Architecture

B&M Services Telemedicine Framework consists of four components. They are:

Some of these applications can be used as standalone ones, but when they are used together they provide more power and flexibility.

B&M Services Telemedicine Framework

B&M VET WEB Server is the central building block of this framework. All other parts are connected with it. It is built as a multi service web application. The current version contains the following services to the end user - Remote Storage and Consultation Request routing.

The WEB Server provides the following functionalities:
  1. User and storage quota management through a simple Web interface.
  2. Remote storage of a DICOM Images.
  3. Consultation requests routing to specialists.
  4. Sending an e-mail notification to a specialist if there is a consultation request for him/her.
  5. Accessible through B&M DICOM PACS VET Server and B&M DICOM PACS VET Viewer WEB.

For each user of the B&M VET WEB Server there is a possibility to use this server as a remote storage. For that purpose the user should ask for Remote Storage Service activation. Each storage account has its own disk space quota.

The usual data flow for this framework is as it follows:
  1. Diagnostic images for a particular patient are taken from a DICOM 3 compatible device and then they are stored on the local B&M DICOM PACS VET Server.
  2. On a PC with installed B&M DICOM PACS VET Viewer, the referring physician retrieves the images from the local storage server and examines them.
  3. If the physician has some question for a specialist he/she writes a Consultation Request with some images attached. The physician selects the specialist that should examine the case from the list with registered specialists. Then he/she sends a request to the WEB Server.
  4. B&M VET WEB Server receives the request and sends an e-mail to the specialist notifying him/her that there is a consultation request.
  5. The specialist retrieves the request using the B&M DICOM PACS VET Viewer WEB and writes back an e-mail to the referring physician with the conclusion for this case

If there is a need more than one physician to look at same images within a clinic, we can combine our B&M DICOM PACS VET Server with B&M DICOM PACS VET Viewer. In this case all DICOM compliant image acquisition devices are connected to our server and store captured images on it. Then any physician that has to look at them can retrieve all images or choose ones for a particular study and patient using our B&M DICOM PACS VET Viewer.

If the clinic has an account on our B&M VET WEB Server, the physician can send a consultation request to a specialist through the local B&M DICOM PACS VET Server.
